Natural family planning methods
LARC methods provide reliable, highly effective contraception for 3–10 years depending on the device. All are more than 99% effective and fertility returns quickly once removed.
Implant (Implanon NXT®)
A small, flexible rod inserted under the skin of your upper arm. It releases progestogen to prevent pregnancy for up to three years. The implant is fully reversible and may also improve period pain, premenstrual symptoms, and acne in some women.
Hormonal IUD (Mirena® or Kyleena®)
A small T-shaped device placed in the uterus, releasing a hormone (levonorgestrel) that prevents pregnancy for up to five years. In addition to contraception, it can significantly reduce heavy menstrual bleeding (up to 93%).
Copper IUD
A non-hormonal option, lasting 5–10 years depending on the type. It prevents fertilisation by affecting sperm movement and altering the uterine lining. It can also be used as an emergency contraceptive if fitted within five days of unprotected sex.
Alongside contraception, our clinic also offers:
Fertility assessments to help plan for the future
Preconception counselling, covering physical and emotional readiness for pregnancy
Breast health checks, with education on self-examination and mammogram referrals
To make the most of your visit, please:
Bring details of your past contraceptive use and reasons why some methods may not have worked for you
Be ready to discuss your menstrual cycle and last period
Share any family medical history that could influence contraceptive suitability
If you’re considering an IUD or implant, your GP will provide specific instructions on how to prepare for the fitting and will discuss the best timing within your cycle to ensure maximum effectiveness.
